SHEKEL
SHEKEL is Israel's leading organization for inclusion of people with disabilities in the community. At SHEKEL, we believe inclusion is a national priority that benefits society as a whole. For nearly 40 years, SHEKEL has provided solutions for thousands of people from all sectors of Israeli society in the areas of independent living, vocational rehabilitation, cultural and leisure activity, therapeutic services, counseling and accessibility.
SHEKEL was founded in 1979 by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Joint Israel, and the Jerusalem Municipality. Today, 550 employees and 700 volunteers assist approximately 8,000 people from across Israeli society (Jews, Muslims, and Christians, religious and secular) with disabilities such as learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, PDD, Asperger's Syndrome, physical and sensory disabilities, and people requiring nursing care.
SHEKEL's activity headquarters is located in Jerusalem. Over the past few years, SHEKEL has expanded to many new locales across Israel, including Petah Tikva, Bat Yam, Ramat Gan, Shoham, the Modi'in Region, Kvutzat Yavneh, Rehovot, Kfar Shmuel and others.
SHEKEL's vision is to develop community services for every person with a disability enabling their independence at home, work, and during leisure and social activity. SHEKEL's services are provided at the highest professional level while taking into account the needs and interests of the person, allowing him or her to live a life of dignity, self-fulfillment, inclusion, and participation in the wider community as equal members of society.
Mabat
Mabat center aims to provide comprehensive and respectful ophthalmology and optometry services for people with disabilities. We believe that people with disabilities deserve equal opportunity to receive the best medical care to realize their functional potential. Today, the lack of awareness and unavailability of ophthalmology and optometry services that are adapted to people with cognitive and developmental disabilities prevent proper treatment.
Mabat center was established by Yael Gutman and Veronica Tzur,
clinical optometrists with twenty years of experience, in the ophthalmology clinics at the Hadassah medical center in complex vision tests for children and adults with disabilities.They are members of the academic faculty in the department of Optometry at Hadassah College. Yael and Veronica collaborate with experience ophthalmologists and welfare organizations in Israel, who are interested in promoting this field of treatment in Israel.
In addition, the staff is accompanied by Dr. Yehuda Tzur, a public policy expert and health organization adviser, regarding research and policy improvement in Israel.
